Reality Check

For all of you stuck in the “there are no jobs” mentality, guess what happened today? Someone retired. Someone decided not to return from a maternity leave. Someone moved out-of-state for a job or for family reasons. Someone was promoted. Someone was fired for poor performance. Someone quit to go it alone. Someone was called to active duty and had to leave a civilian job. Someone passed away unexpectedly. Someone started a new business. Someone became too ill to work any longer. Someone went to jail. Someone landed a key account adding to the demand for a company’s product. Someone negotiated terms for a company to relocate near your area.
Don’t tell me there are no jobs. I know differently. All of the above generate job vacancies on a regular basis. Guess what else happened today? Several “someones” got jobs today because they kept their focus on securing employment instead of using an overly dramatic view of the current economic situation as an excuse to fail in their job search.
Are times tough? Yes. Are jobs harder to come by? Yes. Challenge yourself to rise to the occasion and find the hidden opportunities. Don’t squash your chances of finding a job because you’ve allowed yourself to believe it’s pointless to even try. Change “there are no jobs” to “there are no jobs on my radar at the moment, but I know they are out there and I’m going to do my level best to find them.”

Thank you very much for the extra motivation Lisa. This really helps!

You’re welcome, Eric. It’s so easy to lose sight of reality when so many people, including the news, are peppering job seekers with doom and gloom.
It’s true there are jobs out there. What I tell people when they ask me if I have found a job I say yes, I have I just don’t know where it is. But I have one and it’s the best job I have had in my entire life.
Refreshing!!!! I am working my butt off recruiting – My company has 70+ Full time Jobs in my 350 person division alone. Be positive and take everything in moderation!

Nice way to describe the daily realities of job opportunities. I’m seeing this as the hottest job market in 2.5 years. I’ve already placed almost as many professionals as I did last year and last year was no where near as bad a year as I forecasted. Many people were still interviewed & hired. Last two weeks alone – 35 candidates conducted at least 1 interview, 5 job offers and more activity to be done. People should stop listening to politicians & “news” professionals telling you old & negative info – get out there for there are jobs to be had. I tell everyone focus on your accomplishments (how company made money or benefited) and show passion about the opportunity – if you don’t, someone else interviewing will and likely get the job.
